Identifying Inner Conflicts

<- To Work Program

Coexisting in ourselves there is an altruistic part who wants to do spiritually positive deeds and other parts not so altruistic (the Ego, for example) who have a much more selfish view of the world and how to live on it. Those parts get into conflict and create opposite impulses in our personality for outward action.

It is impossible to do justice to both currents at the same time, since they desire directly opposite goals. The cross-currents then give rise to many other conflicts that extend much further than you are immediately aware of.

Think of a goal in your life that you consider not to have achieved yet. Consider what you may have to do to achieve that goal. Consider also what could be your main reasons to want that goal.

Sit comfortably on a chair, close your eyes and breath calmly. Focus your attention on the questions in the above paragraph and try to hear your inner voices (your own conflicting opinions) regarding the pros and cons of doing what it takes to achieve your goal and regarding the goal itself. Listen to these voices, as they try to influence your decisions and compel you to act in their respective and opposing directions.
